Bailiff action to recover unpaid Council Tax
If you do not set up a repayment arrangement or miss your repayment instalments, we will pass on your debt to our bailiffs (also called ‘enforcement agents’).
At this stage, you:
- cannot request a repayment arrangement
- must contact the bailiff yourself

- setting up a repayment arrangement
- making a payment
You will be charged extra costs on top of the amount owed. The first fee is £75.

How a bailiff collects your debt
There are three stages to bailiff action.
Stage 1: Compliance stage
A cost of £75 is charged for each liability order we pass on to the bailiff.
Stage 2: Enforcement stage
An extra cost of £235 is added to your debt and a bailiff will visit your property to take control of your goods. If your debt is above £1,500, you will also be charged a 7.5% fee.
Stage 3: Sale or disposal
An extra cost of £110 is added to your debt, plus any sale or expense costs. If your debt is above £1,500, you will also be charged a 7.5% fee.
