Problems paying your business rates
Ways to reduce your bill, what you can do if you owe us money, what happens if you do nothing.
Your business rates bill shows the amount you need to pay, known as instalments, and on what dates.
What you can do
If you're struggling to pay your business rates, you can:
- reduce your monthly payment amounts by paying over 12 months instead of the standard 10 months
- see if you qualify for a business rates relief
Contact us:
- to spread your payments over 12 months
- if you're still having difficulty paying your bill
What you can do if you owe us money
If you miss an instalment
You must:
- pay the missed instalment
- continue to pay your other instalments on time
To avoid missing any future payments, you could consider:
- other ways to pay, such as set up a Direct Debit
- changing your instalment date
If you’re unable to pay the monthly instalments
You should pay as much as you can each month to reduce the unpaid amount.
This will not stop our recovery process and a court summons for non-payment may be issued.
If you owe us from a previous billing year
Contact us to request a repayment arrangement.
You will need to pay the repayment arrangement amount and your monthly instalments as listed in your business rates bill.
If you do not pay and do nothing
If you do not pay your business rates on time, we will send you a reminder and final notice.
We may also start legal proceedings which could add extra costs to the amount you owe us.
