You must register to vote and be on the electoral register before you can apply for a postal vote.

You will be asked to:
- provide your details
- upload an image of your signature
- provide your National Insurance number
You can find your National Insurance number on GOV.UK. If you do not have a National Insurance number, or it cannot be verified, you will need to provide supporting documentation.
Apply for a postal vote by post
You can download the Electoral Commission's printable postal vote application form.
Once you have completed and signed the application form, scan it and email it to us.

You must return your postal vote application form by 5pm at least 11 working days before the election you wish to vote in.
Get help with your postal application
Contact us if you:
- require a blank printed copy of the form to be posted to you
- are unable to sign the form
- are unable to sign in a consistent way

If you are unable to sign the form, you must give the name and address of anyone who helps you on the postal vote application form. They must sign a declaration to confirm that you are unable to provide a signature.
Postal vote duration
On the online and postal application forms, you can specify how long you wish to remain on the postal vote register. Select one of these options:
- For the maximum period of up to 3 years. You will be issued with a postal vote for all elections, until you advise us otherwise.
- For elections on a specific date. If you know the date of the election, you can have a postal vote for that particular election.
- For elections until a specific date. If you will be away for a certain period, you can request a postal vote for any elections that may be held during that period.
