To infinity and beyond with Recycle for Woking Week!

25 June 2014

Swooping in to an area near you is a series of 'super' recycling roadshows (7 - 12 July) led by our very own Everyday Heroes, as part of the Borough-wide Recycle for Woking Week.

If you have a recycling query that nobody else can help with or want to discover handy hints and tips to help you recycle more and become an Everyday Hero too, you can catch-up with these superhuman beings between 10am and 6pm at the following locations:

  • Monday 7 July - Waitrose, Goldsworth Park

  • Tuesday 8 July - Woking Leisure Centre and Pool in the Park

  • Wednesday 9 July - Sainsbury's, Brookwood

  • Thursday 10 July - Sainsbury's Brookwood

  • Friday 11 July - Morrisons, Woking

  • Saturday 12 July - Waitrose, Goldsworth Park

Visitors will be able to find out what happens to their recyclables once it's collected with the fantastic Everyday Hero Comics, and to keep the young heroes engaged, there will be fun and interactive activities. Council Officers will also be on hand to answer waste and recycling queries.

Cllr Beryl Hunwicks, Woking Borough Council's Portfolio Holder for Environmental Services, said: "Woking Borough Council is committed to recycling and the Recycle for Woking Week is a great way for residents from across the Borough to come along and ask us their questions about their waste and recycling services.

"At the roadshows you will be able to catch up with the adventures of Woking's recycling heroes in the latest issues of the fantastic `Everyday Heroes' comic series, find out what you can recycle and what happens to it once collected, as well as taking home a few freebies. Don't forget to bring along your children as there are plenty of educational recycling activities for them to get involved with."

The week will culminate with the Recycle for Woking Awards on Friday 11 July at the H.G. Wells Conference and Events Centre. Run in partnership with the Woking Advertiser, the awards aim to showcase and celebrate heroic feats of positive and ongoing recycling behaviour. Awards will be presented to in the following categories.

  • Greenest Managing Agent

  • Green School of the Year

  • Young Everyday Recycler of the Year

  • Recycling Hero of the Year

  • Collection Crew of the Year

At the start of 2014, the Council launched the `Everyday Heroes' campaign to highlight the ongoing battle against everyday waste which can be recycled and saved from expensive landfill sites. The campaign aims to demonstrate to residents that recycling saves money and also highlights how easy it is to recycle on a daily basis using the range of kerbside collection services available in Woking.
