Wheelchair accessible taxi emissions consultation
Tell us if you think we should update our ultra-low emissions (ULEVs) scale.
Currently, all wheelchair accessible taxis and private hire vehicles must be ultra-low emission vehicles (ULEVs) by 31 March 2026, or when the vehicle reaches 15 years old – whichever comes first.
We’re reviewing this policy. Before we make any changes, we're inviting comments from:
- local residents
- taxi drivers
- community groups and organisations
You can give your take part in the consultation online.
The consultation closes on Sunday 31 August 2025.
Why we’re asking for your comments
Wheelchair accessible vehicles help make travel fair and inclusive for everyone, but they can face extra challenges.
Affordable wheelchair accessible ULEV options are limited for drivers. For example, the infrastructure, such as high-speed electric charging points and parking bays, is not widely available.
This could mean some drivers replace their vehicles with ones that are not wheelchair accessible. This would reduce the number of accessible taxis available locally.
We're concerned this could make it harder for disabled residents and others who rely on accessible transport to get around.
We’re asking for your views to help us understand the impact of the current policy and whether any changes should be thought about.
