Enforcement costs and policies for private rented homes

You will be charged for any actions we take including:

  • serving informal hazard awareness notices
  • serving formal improvement and prohibition notices
  • specific action to deal with urgent hazards

Enforcement fees

If you do not pay the enforcement action fees

The costs for repairs undertaken by us will vary depending on the work needed. 

The cost for works will be based on: 

  • an hourly rate
  • the cost of materials for the work

In addition to the works cost, we will also add a 20% administration cost.

Housing Standards Civil Penalty Notice Policy

Where you have not followed the law, we may prosecute or issue a Civil Penalty Notice. This policy outlines the financial penalties we may use if you do not make health and safety improvements to your property, after receiving an improvement notice.
