Choice Unlimited is an exhibition-style event, designed for disabled people, older people and carers in Surrey, showcasing the diversity of information, services, products, ideas and innovation that is available locally to support independent living. It will take place on Thursday 19 June 2014 from 10am to 6pm at Epsom Downs racecourse.

It is a unique event, being led by disabled people to empower disabled people.

Surrey Independent Living Council, which is a user-led organisation run by and for disabled people, will be hosting Choice Unlimited.

Entry will be free to visitors. There will be in about 80 exhibitors covering:

  • education, training and employment

  • health

  • transport

  • leisure and wellbeing

  • products and equipment

  • care and support

During the day, workshops will be taking place on a wide range of topics, including how CCGs work, the Care Bill, powers of attorney and the Court of Protection, Surrey County Council's new Direct Payments card and employing a personal assistant. Adult Social Care practitioners will be holding drop-in surgery sessions.

A variety of activities and entertainments will be taking place throughout the day, including the highly acclaimed play and debate about dementia, `Caring for the Queen of Surrey'.

Jason Vaughan, Chair of Trustees for Surrey Independent Living Council, said: "This is a very exciting opportunity for everyone in Surrey, whoever they may be, to promote independent living - and enjoy a great day out at the same time."

There is a range of opportunities for organisations to participate in the event, either as exhibitors or sponsors; details are available on request.
