Road closures and diversions

As part of the Woking integrated transport project and Victoria Square development, there will be the occasional need to close sections of the highway and pedestrian footpaths.

Chertsey Road closed to all traffic

It is necessary to close Chertsey Road to all traffic between The Broadway and Chobham Road until the end of February 2021. This will allow for the completion of the current section of highway improvements.

As part of the ongoing works by Woking Borough Council to transform Woking Town Centre, Farrans Construction will be laying brick paving on this street over the specified time period.

It is essential that this section of Chertsey Road is closed at this time to facilitate the works. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

If you have any further queries, please call Farrans on 02890 394043 or email

We would like to thank you for your patience during these works.

Lane extension project on Lockfield Drive gets underway

Road users can look forward to smoother traffic flow through Woking town centre, as plans to widen Lockfield Drive on the approach to the junction with Victoria Way gets underway on Monday 16 November 2020. The works are expected to take 23 weeks to complete and the road will be reopen again for commuting traffic at the end of April 2021.

The works will see a small section of highway verge along the approach to the bridge over the Basingstoke Canal reclaimed to accommodate additional queuing capacity, giving easy access to the new car park that is currently under construction, and easing congestion for traffic continuing east along the A320 towards the M25.

Improved highway safety measures will also be introduced, along with an upgraded traffic signal system.
