Building materials on highways

You need a licence to place building materials on any part of the highway, footway or carriageway. Within Woking's town centre boundaries , issuing these licences is our responsibility.

Licences are normally issued three working days from the receipt of an application. This applies to both new applications and extensions to existing applications.

How to apply

Before you apply, please read our terms and conditions carefully. Your application should be completed and sent to us at least seven days before the date on which the materials are to be deposited. Wherever possible materials should be placed on private land.

Fees and charges

Before we issue the licence, we require a refundable deposit in addition to the licence fee. This deposit is to protect against potential damage to the public highway caused by the crane or equipment. If our contractors are called out to light up the site, or to make it safe, a charge will also be incurred.
