Coronavirus: taxi and private hire licence updates

LAST UPDATE: 31 March 2020

We will not be providing face to face appointments and knowledge tests at the Civic Offices until further notice. We have also cancelled all previously booked appointments with the licensing team.

All applications, correspondence and contact with the taxi and private hire licensing team must be emailed to:

We will endeavour to deal with enquiries as quickly as possible. However, we may not be unable to respond to customer emails within our published timescales and we ask you to be patient whilst we prioritise and process all incoming emails and requests.

Licence applications

We are not accepting licence applications until further notice.

Taxi and private hire licence renewals

For the time being, we will continue to renew licences which meet our requirements and we are provided with the relevant documentation.

Renewals will be approved by ‘extension letters’ or paper versions of licences only.

Please keep your existing plates or badges as you will need these to continue working if your licence renewal is accepted.

Requested documents must be scanned or photographed with a smartphone. The images must show each page of the document and the content must be clearly visible. We recommend that all scans and photographs are high resolution in size.

All copies of documents must be sent with an accompanying email to:

Do not post any documents to the Civic Offices.
