Refugee Week is a nationwide programme of arts, cultural and educational events that celebrates the contribution of refugees to the UK, and encourages a better understanding between communities.

Woking Welcomes Exhibition (20 - 24 June 2017)
A community art exhibition for Refugee Week, featuring a selection of artwork produced by local schools, community groups and youth clubs on the theme of Journey Together.
Available to view at St Dunstan's Church between 20 & 24 June 2017. Opening hours 12pm - 7pm.
Launch Event (Tues 20 June, 7pm - 10.30pm)
Refugee week will be launched with an evening full of cultural entertainment at St Dunstan's Church, from African drumming, Classical Hindu Dance, play readings and guest speakers. A shared community Iftar meal (breaking the fast during Ramadan) will take place after the performances.
Kite Making (Wed 21 June, 4.30- 6.30pm)
Kite flying is a traditional Afghanistan pastime, and is hugely popular in countries that have dispersed populations. Join local artists in making and flying a unique kite for Refugee Week at St Dunstan's Church. Build and create designs inspired by journeys and travel. Suitable for ages 6+
Light Snacks and refreshments will be served.
Film 'Kite Runner (12A)' (Wed 21 June, 7pm - 9pm)
Set in Afghanistan, The Kite Runner traces one boys experience when he returns from California to his homeland to help an old friend. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided during the film at St Dunstan's Church.
'All Together Now' Storytelling Woking Library, Saturday 24 June, 1pm - 2pm
An interactive storytelling session at Woking Library based on play, story and movement. Come for a magic carpet ride and listen to a wonderful story about homes, houses and hearts with Roya Hamid of Marvellous Productions. Dont forget to bring your voice, your body and your imaginations. Suitable for ages 0-5
Refugee Tales (Sat 24 June, 2 - 4pm)
Woking People of Faith will present its popular "A conversation with" event at St Dunstan's Church. Instead of listening to speakers from different faiths, we will hear the stories as told by refugees and witnessed in the Calais Jungle. A powerful and emotional journey not to be missed.

Visit Woking Library during Refugee Week to browse a special collection of topical novels and books. For one week only! A range of titles will be available from history, biographies and fiction.
The art exhibition will be available to view after Refugee Week at Woking Library from 26 June - 7 July 2017.
