These days, we are all looking for more sustainable ways to travel, either to help save money on running costs or to protect the planet by reducing the amount of carbon produced.

Through its Climate Change Strategy, Woking Borough Council is committed to promoting sustainable ways to travel. That's why it has invested in the local cycle infrastructure, providing cycle storage and cycle paths and enabling you to freewheel your way across the Borough. It's also why it has teamed up with Enterprise Rent-a-Car Ltd to bring you WeCar, an innovative new way of providing car hire to businesses and residents that is convenient, affordable and good for the environment.

What is WeCar?

WeCar is a membership-based car sharing scheme that offers short-term affordable access to a car, while positively contributing to the objectives for a cleaner, greener Borough. Not only does car sharing reduce the amount of cars on the road, WeCar uses fuel efficient vehicles to lessen the impact on the environment.

How do I become a member of the WeCar scheme?

For a membership fee of £50 per annum (plus a one-off registration fee of £25), WeCar members have access to vehicles for an hourly rate of just £5 per hour, which includes 30 miles worth of fuel!

Once signed up to the scheme, members are given access to the online booking system. A special card is used to access the vehicles, which are currently located in dedicated bays in the Shoppers' Car Park in Woking Town Centre.

It's as easy as 1, 2, 3, when you travel with the WeCar!

Step 1

Log on to the WeCar site, using your personal member ID and password, where you can search for and reserve available cars for the date and time you've requested.

Step 2

Go to the WeCar vehicle at your specified reservation time and hold your membership card over the sensor in the windscreen. The system will recognise you and the car will unlock.

Step 3

When your rental comes to an end, simply return the car to the original pick up location. Hold your membership card over the sensor in the windscreen to signal the end of your rental, and you're finished!
