Car park refurbishment programme

Car park refurbishment is underway

An extensive, multi-million pound programme to significantly improve the car parks in Woking town centre is now underway.

The programme, which will be carried out in phases, is scheduled for completion in 2011.  It will bring car parking facilities in the Wolsey Place, Toys R Us, Peacocks and Brewery Road Car Parks up to the same high standard as Victoria Way Car Park, and will lead to a more positive experience for all users of the car parks.

While the work is being carried out, the Council's contractors will need to close small sections at a time, and alternative parking areas will always be clearly signposted.  Every effort will be made to reduce disruption to a minimum, and activities will be significantly scaled down from October to January each year to minimise disruption during the busy Christmas shopping period.

The refurbishment programme will include:

  • a pay-on-foot payment system to allow motorists more flexibility when visiting Woking
  • improved lighting
  • the installation of CCTV for improved security
  • a redesign of the drop-off zone to make it easier to enter and leave the car parks
  • clearer signage and brighter decor
  • a new car park control office and customer service point.

During the project newsletters giving further information and progress reports will be issued.  The latest version is available here.
