Tour Series Woking

THE BIKE BATTLE IS BACK!

Woking Town Centre will again be turned into a fast a furious racing track for cyclists, as the Tour Series returns on 24 June 2010.

Representatives from SweetSpot Group Ltd, the organisers and promoters of both The Tour Series and The Tour of Britain, paid a special visit to Woking on 1 October 2009 to announce the schedule for next year's tour, which will see Woking host a leg of the 2010 series. They also handed over a signed Tour Series cycling shirt to thank both Woking Borough Council and Surrey County Council for their help in hosting the third leg of the 2009 series.

Speaking about the plans for next year, Iain Reeve, Surrey County Council's Head of Transport and Chair of the Cycle Woking Group said: "The Tour Series event is a great way of showcasing cycling and encouraging people of all ages and abilities to get on their bikes. This year, thousands of people turned out to watch the event, both on the streets of Woking and then on television and we are keen to capitalise on this success during 2010.

"A number of important lessons were learnt by the organising team during the build-up to this year's event and we intend to use these to bring about improvements for The Tour Series 2010. We are very excited that The Tour Series has decided to choose Woking as one of its key venues and we look forward to welcoming the top class riders to our streets next summer."

Hugh Roberts, Chief Executive of Sweetspot Group Ltd, added: "Woking was a fantastic host this year and many of the riders commented on both the interesting course and the warm reception of the crowd. Overall, The Tour Series played a major role in generating interest in British cycling and we anticipate that The Series will attract an even bigger following during 2010."

What a day!

The people of Woking were congratulated by the organisers of the Tour Series, following this year's event, for laying on and supporting a great cycling extravaganza in Woking Town Centre.

Thousands of local people turned out during the day to enjoy entertainment, take part in community races and watch ten teams of professional riders whizz around the Woking streets to win the much-coveted leaders's jerseys. And with clear blue skies overhead, it proved to be a fantastic event for all concerned.

The professional race was captured on camera by ITV4 and broadcast on 3 June 2009.

Thanks!

The Cycle Woking Partnership (Woking Borough Council and Surrey County Council) would like to thank everyone who gave their support to this great event. In particular, it would like to thank the Peacocks Shopping Centre for agreeing to be the presenting sponsor - the support was very much appreciated.
