Key card launch event 27 September 2008

A fun packed day was had by all!

To mark the launch of The Key, everyone was invited to visit Woking Leisure Centre, Pool in the Park and Woking Park on Saturday 27 September 2008, to try out many of the activities that were available at these venues and learn more about some of the Key's partner organisations.  The exciting schedule for the day was created to coincide with the launch of the Cultural Olympiad and align with 3 of it's 7 themes (below), aim to:

  • bring together culture and sport
  • encourage people of all ages to take part     
  • bring public spaces to life through street theatre, public art, circus skills, and live big screen sites

Events on the day included sporting competitions, entertainment, music, food, stalls and a raffle; find out if you were one of the lucky prize winners. Many tried their hand at ICE Cycling, Samba and Fightclub taster sessions, there was also an opportunity to play with the Woking Blackhawks and receive some basic coaching from the local team. A bouncy castle was provided for the children and the Playstore was open all day, free of charge. Swimming at the Pool in the Park cost just £1 per session on the day.

A new and exciting game came to Woking.  The Ski Blizzard is the ultimate Ski Simulator consisting of two Alpine Racers which are enclosed within a futuristic Dome with high-powered fans blowing artificial snow everywhere.  The machines are linked so players could race each other over 6 different courses, including slalom and downhill.

For those people who prefered to be outdoors or were a little less energetic, a floral demonstration was delivered by the National Association of Flower Arrangers, Daisy Tuffen Flower Club in Pyrford. Beauty therapists and nail artists were also on site to pamper all. The entire event was covered by 96.4 Eagle Radio, view their photo gallery for an insight into the day.
