Telecom masts introduction

The Council has published a brochure which clearly explains how it deals with making planning decisions about the provision of telecom masts and related equipment in the Borough.

The brochure provides useful information about the issues surrounding planning decisions on the siting of telecoms equipment, including government guidance, particularly in relation to environmental and health considerations. The document clarifies the planning requirements concerning different sizes of equipment and the consultation arrangements which have been put in place to keep local residents and amenity groups informed so that representations can be made before a planning decision is made. The document covers:

  • types of equipment
  • operators' need for more masts
  • government policy and guidance
  • Council-owned land
  • environmental considerations
  • health considerations
  • planning applications
  • consultation arrangements and
  • determining an application.

The Council has also published Supplementary Planning Guidance on Telecommunication Masts.
