Planning Policy Statement 3: Housing (PPS3) requires local authorities to identify and maintain a rolling five year supply of deliverable land for housing. This document sets out the Council's five year housing supply position for the period April 2007 to March 2012.
Sites are considered deliverable if they are:
available (site is available now)
suitable (offers a suitable location for development now and would contribute to the creation of sustainable, mixed communities)
achievable (a reasonable prospect that housing would be delivered within five years).
Woking's housing allocation for the period 2006 to 2026, as set out in the draft South East Plan, is 242 new dwellings per annum. Woking's housing allocation between 1 April 2007 and 31 March 2012 is 1,210 dwellings.
Woking has a total housing land supply of 2,670 dwellings, compared with a requirement for 1,210, which represents a surplus of 1,460 dwellings. However Woking's housing allocation for the period 2006 to 2026 is 4,840 dwellings, so over a longer time period there is not a surplus supply of dwellings.
