Following the Councils submission of the Core Strategy Publication Document on 16 December 2011 the Planning Inspectorate has confirmed that an examination will be held to consider the soundness of the Woking Borough Council Core Strategy Development Plan Document.
The Secretary of State has appointed an independent Inspector, Mr. Andrew Seaman BA (Hons), MA, MRTPI to conduct the Examination and a independent Programme Officer working under the Inspectors direction has also been appointed to be responsible for organising the programming and all procedural matters. Futher details of the Examination, the right to participate and any documents submitted in connection with the examination can be viewed on the Council's dedicated Woking 2027 website.
The Planning Policy team is responsible for preparing the Council's planning policies and proposals to guide future development of the Borough in line with national planning policy.
In 2004 the Government introduced a new requirement for local authorities to prepare a Local Development Framework (LDF). This is a suite of planning documents that will set out the Council's future planning policies and eventually replace the Local Plan.
In 2007 most of the planning policies set out in the Woking Borough Local Plan 1999 were 'saved' as part of the Local Development Framework. This means that they can continue to be used until such time as they are replaced by new policies.
Not all of the policies remain in use as some of them have been out dated by more recent national planning policy.
The South East Plan is the regional strategy for the South East. It sets out the overall scale of development for the region and included borough housing targets for the Plan period, 2006-2026.
The South East Plan was published on 6 May 2009. It was revoked by the coalition government on 6 July 2010 however a legal judgement on the 10 November 2010 re-established the South East Plan as part of the development plan.
The Government has written to all local authorities and made them aware of its intention to revoke all regional strategies through the forthcoming Localism Bill.
