Pest control

The Council provides the following pest control service:

Domestic pest control

The Council provides a pest control service to the residents of the Borough to enable the effective control of the following pests only:

  • bedbugs
  • cockroaches
  • fleas
  • mice  (inside your home)
  • rats  (within the boundary of your home and/or garden)
  • squirrels (inside your home) and
  • wasps (nests that are below gutter level, unless there is safe access from inside the property, i.e. from the loft area or scaffolding is erected on the outside of the building. The nest is not taken away but when the wasps have died the nest can be removed quite easily.).

The Council's pest control contractor will visit you within two days of your enquiry, between 8.30am and 4.30pm. Appointments will be made for am or pm only. Regretably we are unable to provide timed, evening or weekend appointments.

Fees and charges

Note: All fees and charges are reviewed annually and are subject to change on 1 April each year. They then remain valid until 31 March of the following year.

Insect identification

The Council offers a free insect identification and advice service to enable you to treat household pests yourself. Please bring in a specimen in an airtight container, together with your contact details and we will advise you accordingly.

Complaints about pests

The Council has powers under the Prevention of Damage by Pests Act 1949 to ensure that landowners keep their property free from rats and mice or any items that may provide harbourage for them. If you have a complaint of this nature please call 01483 755855 for further information.

All complaints will be responded to within three working days.
