Brewery Road joins town centre car parks in achieving Safer Parking Award

16 July 2014

Woking Borough Council is pleased to announce that all of its five town centre car parks have received their Park Mark Safer Parking award; the latest recipient of the award being the newly refurbished Brewery Road Car Park.

In addition to Brewery Road, Shoppers' (Red, Yellow and Blue) and Victoria Way car parks were inspected and reassessed by the British Parking Association and Surrey Police Accredited Assessors earlier this month, all retaining their Safer Parking Award status for the next 12 months.

Graham Chapman of the British Parking Association, said: "It was good to visit Woking Borough Council for the first time as the new Surrey Area Manager, not only to renew their four existing awards, but also to have the pleasure of granting a new Park Mark award for the improved Brewery road car park as well. This clearly shows the Councils continuing commitment to providing safer public car parks, therefore all staff should all be congratulated for their individual efforts."

Cllr John Kingsbury, Leader of Woking Borough Council's Executive and Portfolio Holder for Parking Services, added: "I am delighted that all our town centre car parks have met the stringent standards of this prestigious scheme. The recently refurbished Brewery Road Car Park shows that the Borough Council is investing in parking provision and demonstrates its commitment to making Woking's town centre car parks a safe, welcoming environment for drivers. Our staff must be commended."

The Safer Parking Scheme was established by the Association of Chief Police Officers and administered by the British Parking Association. It is designed to reduce crime and the fear of crime in car parks, which creates safe and non-threatening environments for all users.
