With just weeks to go until the Recycle for Woking Awards, Woking's Everyday Heroes are urging Borough residents to nominate their recycling superheroes before nominations close at midnight on Friday 20 June.
As part of the year-long Everyday Heroes recycling campaign, the awards run by Woking Borough Council in partnership with the Woking Advertiser, aim to showcase and celebrate positive and ongoing recycling behaviours.
Nominations are open for the following five categories:
Greenest Managing Agent
Residents living in a flat or apartment, can nominate managing agents who are committed to providing first-rate recycling facilities and services. Alternatively, managing agents providing such services can also submit a nomination on behalf of the organisation.
Green School of the Year
It's a fact that schools produce a lot of waste. This category will commend the school with the greenest credentials; one that goes above and beyond to employ resourceful recycling practices and instils them in its students' everyday behaviour.
Young Everyday Recycler of the Year
This award is for a young recycling superstar, one that recycles everyday, encourages others to do so and may even have introduced recycling initiatives to their classroom or school.
Recycling Hero of the Year
For this category, the Council is searching for an individual who has excelled at improving recycling in their area. They might have offered advice, helped neighbours or worked with the Council and/or managing agents to improve recycling facilities.
Collection Crew of the Year
Come rain or shine, collection crews are out collecting resident's waste and recycling on a daily basis. Residents who would like to show their appreciation for their local crew can do so in this category.
At the start of 2014, the Council launched the `Everyday Heroes' campaign to highlight the ongoing battle against everyday waste which can be recycled and saved from expensive landfill sites. The campaign aims to demonstrate to residents that recycling saves money and also highlights how easy it is to recycle on a daily basis using the range of kerbside collection services available in Woking.
Cllr Beryl Hunwicks, Woking Borough Council's Portfolio Holder for Waste and Recycling, said: "The Recycling for Woking Awards is a fantastic way for the Council to reward and recognise our local `everyday heroes' for their efforts, which have helped Woking to become one of the top performing waste collection authorities within the UK.
"This is a great opportunity to nominate someone you think has helped to save valuable resources from going to landfill, and give them a chance to be recognised for their recycling efforts; be it a managing agent, neighbour, family member, school, student or even your collection crew. Time is running out, so don't delay, nominate your everyday heroes today!"
Nominations close at midnight on 20 June 2014. To submit an online nomination and to find out more about the Recycle for Woking Awards and the Everyday Heroes campaign, visit www.woking.gov.uk/everydayheroes or email email@example.com
