Detailed designs can be drafted and tenders sought for a new two-storey replacement community centre at Lakeview, following a decision by Woking Borough Council's Executive at its meeting last Thursday (12 December 2013).

The decision came following a consultation event held on Tuesday 26 November 2013 at Lakeview Community Centre, hosted by New Vision Homes. Over 100 people attended, with 93 people giving their overwhelming support for a new two-storey replacement community centre that would vastly improve existing facilities and enable the centre to host additional community-based activities.

Cllr David Bittleston, Portfolio Holder for Housing, said; "The Council is committed to supporting the Lakeview community. Following this decision by the Executive, officers will now proceed by preparing detailed designs of the building and, in consultation with the Leader and I, obtain tenders for the project. The replacement community building will provide first class community facilities for Lakeview."

The project will be funded one third from the Housing Revenue Account and the rest from the investment programme and General Fund Reserves. Subject to planning consent, works will commence during 2014 and will be managed by New Vision Homes.
