Competition winners, Emily Collier and Kate George, were the two lucky voters from over 2,000 votes cast who were selected at random to win iPad minis after nominating their favourite licensed premises to win Woking Best Bar None's The Woking Advertiser Public Choice Award.
They collected their awards today (Wednesday 23 October 2013) at the Miller Brands HQ and were congratulated by Jonathan Lord, MP for Woking; Jonathan Bennett, Head of Corporate Affairs at Miller Brands UK and Jenny Stanton, Chief Reporter at The Woking Advertiser.
As part of the Woking Best Bar None 2013 scheme, between 1 May and 30 August 2013, members of the public were asked to vote for their favourite pub, bar or restaurant online and via a new text messaging service, for their chance to win the coveted prize, courtesy of Woking Best Bar None sponsors, Miller Brands UK.
The scheme is run by Woking Borough Council and seeks to recognise and reward the responsible management of licensed premises in the Borough. Winners were announced at an awards evening on 30 September with Bed Bar being crowned The Woking Advertiser Public Choice winner and the Cricketers in Horsell named Miller Brands UK Overall Best Bar None.
Whilst collecting her prize, Emily Collier, said: "I voted for my favourite premises in the Woking Best Bar None scheme and winning the iPad mini prize is an unexpected bonus. The public vote is a good way to engage the community in the scheme."
Jonathan Lord, MP for Woking, added: "I'm honoured to have been a part of the Woking Best Bar None scheme this year. It's an initiative that seeks to benefit the local community in which it operates. I'd like to extend my congratulations to Emily and Kate and thank them for getting involved in the scheme."
Woking Best Bar None 2013 was sponsored by Miller Brands UK, and supported by the Woking Advertiser, Surrey Alcohol Responsibility Initiative (SARI), Drinkaware and Eagle Radio.
