Time is yet to be called on Woking Best Bar None as Woking Borough Council has extended the application period for local pubs, bars and restaurants until Monday 15 April.

The awards, sponsored by local firm, Miller Brands UK, and run by Woking Borough Council, allow local licensed premises to be recognised as Woking's best, with responsible management at the heart of their practice.

Local licensed premises who apply to the scheme can benefit from the following:

  • A free premises listing in the Taste directory on Eagle Radio's web site.

  • Staff can undertake the BIIAB Level 2 Award for Personal Licence Holders exam free of charge (50 spaces available on a first come first served basis).

  • Staff can attend a free Fire Safety Training course.

  • Certified premises can use the Best Bar None logos for publicity purposes.

  • Letting customers know that premises are a quality venue, focused on customer care and safety.

Cllr Carl Thomson, Woking Borough Council's Portfolio Holder for Licensing, said: "Woking Best Bar None has received many applications from local bars, pubs and restaurants, and the extension of the application period allows premises from across the Borough to get onboard. It's such a worthwhile scheme that has many benefits for those licensed premises who are getting involved and for the local community."

Sam Marshall, Woking Best Bar None's Project Manager, said: "The extension of the Woking Best Bar None closing date for applications means that those few premises that are yet to return their application forms have until 15 April to so do. We welcome applications from new applicants and those who took part in last year's scheme."

Officers from Woking Borough Council, Surrey Police, Surrey Fire and Rescue and Surrey Trading Standards, will shortly start visiting premises, looking at the procedures and policies in place to make it a safer, more enjoyable venue for both staff and patrons.
