As snow fell and temperatures across the Borough plummeted, Woking's Community Meals Service continued to deliver hot meals during the weekend to over 90 frail, elderly and vulnerable residents, thanks to a dedicated team of hardy volunteers.
Despite the tricky driving conditions, the team of dedicated drivers assisted Community Meals Service staff in delivering hot meals to customers on time on Saturday and Sunday morning.
Cllr Melanie Whitehand, Portfolio Holder for Independent Living Services, said: "The Council is committed to providing quality services to vulnerable people in the Borough, especially the Community Meals Service. Thanks to the team of volunteers, we managed to make all our regular deliveries to our customers guaranteeing they received an invaluable hot meal each day. We appreciate the support these volunteers provided."
Run by Woking Borough Council, the Community Meals Service provides frail, elderly and vulnerable members of the community with easy access to hot, nutritious meals, whilst remaining in the familiarity of their own home. In December 2012, the service took receipt of a new fleet of vehicles and made nutritional improvements to the menu.
