Woking residents are being reminded that nominations for the 2013 Young People's Civic Awards Scheme must be received by Friday 25 January.

The scheme, run by Woking Borough Council, recognises children and young people who make an outstanding contribution to the community, which is not normally recognised by formal accreditation.

Nominees are sought in the following three categories:

  • Outstanding Contribution to the Community - this includes work in areas such as helping the elderly or disabled, getting involved with voluntary organisations, working with children and fundraising for good causes.

  • Triumph Over Adversity - to include endurance and bravery, such as overcoming disability or helping a parent or family member with a disability.

  • Outstanding Achievement - this covers excellence in many fields - sport, music, drama, the visual arts - particularly in less academic subjects that are not normally recognised or rewarded in other ways.

The scheme is open to all children and young people, up to the age of 18, who live or attend school or college in the Borough. All nominations are judged by a panel and all young people nominated for an award will receive a certificate acknowledging their achievements. The winners will be invited to attend the Mayor's Civic Reception on Friday 26 April 2013.

The deadline for nominations is Friday 25 January. Application forms are available from the Civic Offices or the Woking Borough Council website. Alternatively, forms are available from Julie Northcote, Woking Borough Council's Democratic Services Officer, on 01483 743053 or email julie.northcote@woking.gov.uk Completed forms should be sent to Julie Northcote, Democratic Services, Civic Offices, Gloucester Square, Woking GU21 6YL.
