Bargain hunters will have even more reason to visit Woking Town Centre from this Sunday (7 March), when the Toys R Us Car Park hosts the first ever Woking Car Boot Sale, from 10am.

The car boot sale has been organised by Woking Borough Council and will be managed by Woking's market operator. Is it intended that the event will run every Sunday, apart from Easter Sunday and Boxing Day, so that it becomes a regular feature in Woking.

The sales will take place on Levels 7 and upwards of the Red Shoppers' Car Park (also known as the Toys R Us Car Park), from 10am to 3pm on Sundays only, and shoppers can visit the sale free of charge on foot between these times (subject to normal parking charges). Traders must be set up by 9am, for which the following daily charges apply.

  • Standard sized car, £8.

  • Car with a trailer, £10.

  • Van, £10.

These payments include the maximum daily parking fee on a Sunday of £3 in this car park.

Woking Borough Council's Portfolio Holder for Public Markets, Cllr Beryl Hunwicks, said: "This initiative aims to encourage traders to turn their unwanted items into cash, whilst helping to increase footfall in the town centre on Sundays. It will also offer shoppers the chance to find a second-hand bargain, providing yet another reason for people to come into Woking."

Anyone interested in attending the car boot sale as a stallholder should contact the sale operator, Steve Barrett, on 07785 237500, or email stevebarrett53@yahoo.co.uk

Alternatively, traders can just turn up on the day.
