Status of services in Woking Borough - Friday 8 to Sunday 10 January

Despite the continued adverse weather conditions, Woking Borough Council and other local service providers are working hard to maintain key services for residents.

  • Surrey County Council continues to grit all A roads in the area.

  • Refuse collections have been cancelled for this week. Blue wheeled bin collections have been cancelled for next week to enable black wheeled bin collections to take place. (Please see additional information.)

  • Town Centre car parks in Woking are planned to be open as usual, with the exception of roof levels and Brewery Road Car Park.

  • Community Transport, Dial-a-Ride and the Town Centre Buggy services are suspended during Friday and Saturday.

  • Deliveries of meals on wheels to elderly and vulnerable people are continuing as normal.

  • Street cleaning and ground maintenance has been suspended and staff redeployed to clear snow from Woking Town Centre and other critical venues.

  • All public toilets are closed, with the exception of the shopping centres.

  • Woking Citizens' Advice Bureau is open on Friday from 10am to 1pm, and on Saturday from 9.30am to 12 noon, weather permitting.

  • Woking Library is open as usual on Friday and Saturday, although is likely to close at 4pm.

  • H.G. Wells Conference and Events Centre is open for business as usual.

All Council buildings on Friday 8 January are open for business, but will close earlier than usual.

  • Woking's Centres for the Community (St Mary's in Byfleet, Moorcroft in Kingfield, The Vyne in Knaphill and Parkview in Sheerwater) will close at 3.30pm.

  • Woking Leisure Centre and Pool in the Park will close at 7pm.

  • The Civic Offices will close at the usual time of 4.45pm. However, a limited service will operate after 3.30pm.

During Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 January:

  • all sports pitches will be closed for the safety of users and ground protection. No matches will be played

  • Woking Leisure Centre and Pool in the Park will close at 7pm

  • Woking's Centres for the Community will be closed.

We would like to apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and would like to thank you for your patience.

The Council would advise residents to take the following steps.

  • Only go out if necessary. If you do need to venture out, please take extreme care

  • Avoid travelling unless necessary. If you do need to travel, please take precautions and be prepared.

  • Check that elderly neighbours or people who may require assistance are OK.

  • Make sure animals and/or children do not walk on frozen ponds or the Canal

  • Only call 999 in a real emergency.

  • Tune in to their local radio and television news programmes to stay abreast of the latest situation with regards the heavy snowfall.
