Members of the Evolve Fitness Suite Team at Woking Leisure Centre were on hand today (Tuesday 12 February) to help customers `vibrate' their way to fitness, by demonstrating the gym's newest piece of high-tech equipment - the Galileo vibration plate.

The Galileo consists of a vibrating platform that users stand on or perform exercises on, stimulating muscles in a manner that promotes rapid development. The plate vibrates five to 30 times per second, stimulating the body's natural `stretch reflex', recruiting up to 30% more muscle fibres than through conventional training.

Because of this increased recruitment, significant results can be achieved from as little as 10 minutes per session, two or three times a week.

There are a number of benefits to using the vibration plate that are not always achievable with regular exercise. These include increased muscle strength and performance, better flexibility and agility, and improved balance and coordination.

Speaking of the benefits, Jackie Joyce, Woking Leisure Centre's Fitness Manager, said: "The Galileo can benefit everyone, from athletes to those just wanting to tone up or lose weight. It is excellent for treating back pain, improving core stability and injury rehabilitation."

Galileo inductions and sessions are included in all gym membership packages. For casual pay-as-you-go users, sessions cost £3, while a one-off induction fee will cost £7.
