Motorists who use the Brewery Road Car Park in Woking will experience a safer, faster and more flexible parking service from today (Wednesday 30 January), as the new pay-on-foot system in the car park goes live.

Like Victoria Way Car Park, Brewery Road now has pay-on-foot technology in place of the old pay and display machines. Motorists will be required to take a ticket on entry and then, at the end of their stay, they will need to pay at the pay stations for the amount of time spent. With the new pay-on-foot system, users will be unable to overstay their time and risk getting a penalty charge, as they will pay whatever is due at the end of their stay.

Car park users will be able to pay with Visa, Mastercard, credit/debit cards, as well as coins and notes. There are two pay stations located by the footbridge leading to the town centre which are capable of giving change.

The pay-on-foot system has Licence Plate Recognition cameras as an integral part of the entry and exit barriers. These will help season ticket holders to enter and leave the car park without having to take, or process, a ticket each time.

As part of the wider car parks refurbishment programme, the Council has also installed a new low glare, low light pollution, energy efficient lighting system, along with eight new CCTV cameras, which will provide all-over cover of the car parking area. These measures will make Brewery Road Car Park one of the safest in the Borough.

Cllr Mohammed Iqbal, Woking Borough Council's Portfolio Holder for Parking Services, said: "I am delighted that the pay-on-foot system in the Brewery Road Car Park is now operational, the first of Woking's car parks to do so as part of the multi-million pound refurbishment programme. The improved lighting and security will give people greater peace of mind while they do their shopping or visit the town."
