Six new electronic signs, which indicate where spaces are available in Woking's town centre car parks, will become operational in July to help visitors to park more easily.
The signs, which have been jointly funded by Woking Borough Council and Surrey County Council, have been positioned at six main entry points to the town:
Guildford Road (Turnoak Corner)
Chertsey Road (near canal bridge)
Chobham Road (Wheatsheaf Park)
Lockfield Drive
Brewery Road (Horsell Moor)
Oriental Road (Retail Park)
The signs, which will be maintained by Surrey County Council, work by logging the number of cars going in and out of the car parks and indicating to visitors where spaces are available.
Initially, information about Heathside and Victoria Way Car Parks will show the actual number of spaces available, whilst the signage for the remaining car parks will only show `spaces' or `full' until the new technology is fully implemented.
Cllr Valerie Tinney, Portfolio Holder for Parking Services said: "This new signage will assist visitors to Woking to find a space quickly and efficiently and I am confident that it will help to ease congestion in the town. The introduction of these signs reflects the Council's ongoing commitment to improving car parking in the Borough."
