The private alleyway between the Big Apple and O'Neil's, which is located off Crown Square, in Woking Town Centre will be permanently closed to the public from the end of June in order to provide a more secure refuse storage area and create a tidier appearance to this area of the town.

The alleyway, which is a refuse storage area for the Big Apple, H.G. Wells and Gala Bingo, is not a public right of way and in order for the refuse to be dealt with properly in this area, the alleyway will need to be closed on a permanent basis. The closure will create a secure and safe environment for storage and collection.

Due to its use as a storage area, the alleyway is often dirty and unpleasant to walk through and its closure will make the area much more presentable. The Safer Woking Partnership have also given the closure their support, as the alleyway is considered to be a potential problem from a community safety viewpoint.

Cllr Valerie Tinney, Woking Borough Council's Portfolio Holder for Property Management said: "I am pleased that the alleyway will be closing permanently as it is currently a dirty and unpleasant cut-through. As well as providing a more suitable refuse storage area for local businesses, the closure to the public will go some way to making this area of the town tidier, safer and more pleasant in general."
