Pool in the Park is a registered centre of education and excellence for the Amateur Swimming Association (A.S.A.) and a regional training centre for a number of organisations and governing bodies that provide teaching/coaching and instructor courses in a variety of water-based disciplines.

A.S.A. Certificate for Teaching Adult and Child
Water Activities

Course information:

This certificate qualifies the holder to teach adult and child water activities and skills to groups where adults have to accompany the children in the water.

Requirements:

Applicants must be holders of the A.S.A. Level Two Teaching (Swimming) qualification.

ASA/UKCC Level 1 Certificate for Teaching Aquatics

Course information:

This is the pre-requisite for the ASA/UKCC Level 2 Certificate and entitles the successful candidate to assist under supervision of a qualified ASA Teacher (swimming) from stage 1-7 of the National Plan for Teaching Swimming 07.

Requirements:

Applicants must be over 16 years of age at the start of the course

  • 3, 4, 10, 11 and 17 May 2008
  • 6, 13, 20, 27 September and 4 October 2008

ASA/UKCC Level 2 Certificate for Teaching Aquatics (Units 1-6)

Course information:

This qualifies the candidate to teach groups of up to 12 participants in a range of activites from Stage 1-7 of the National Plan for Teaching Swimming 07.

Requirements:

Applicants must be over 18 years of age at the start of the course, be holders of the ASA Level 1 qualification, have a current CRB check and hold current NRASTC or NPLQ qualifications.

National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers N.R.A.S.T.C

Course information:

The National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches is an essential qualification for all teachers.  It gives an introduction into the understanding of general procedures, safety, first aid, resuscitation and rescue techniques.

Requirements:

Applicants must be 16 years of age at the start of the course.  The participant must be physically fit, able to swim at least 20 metres front and back continuously and to submerge to a depth of at least 1.5 metres:

Full course:

  • 1, 7 and 8 June 2008

Renewal course:

  • 28 and 29 June 2008
  • 2 and 9 November 2008

National Pool Lifeguard Qualification N.P.L.Q.

Course information:

This is an essential course for anyone wanting to take employment as a lifeguard.

Requirements:

Applicants must be 16 years of age at the start of the course.

  • 7 - 12 April 2008
  • 14 - 19 April 2008
  • 28 July - 2 August 2008
  • 27 October - 1 November 2008

Renewal course:

  • 5, 6 and 12 July
  • 2 and 9 November 2008

Aqua teacher classes

Pool in the Park also offers a variety of teacher training classes for water fitness or aerobic classes throughout the year.

Water Fitness Core Instructors Course

Course information:

This certificate qualifies the holder to teach water fitness classes to a wide range of participants in shallow to deep water.

Requirements:

No formal pre-requisites, just a confident friendly personality, over 18 years and water confident:

  • 14, 15, 16, 17 August 2008.

Water Fitness Conversion Course

Course information:

This certificate qualifies the holder to teach water fitness classes to a wide range of participants in shallow to deep water.

Requirements:

Holder of a recognised land group fitness qualification:

  • 20 April 2008
  • 16 November 2008

Continuing Professional Development Workshops

Course information:

A three hour workshop which includes one and a half hours of practical water time:

  • 27 April 2008
  • 23 November 2008
