Admission policies and information

Pool in the Park Admission Policy
(Public Sessions)

Following a health safety review and in accordance with general leisure industry guidance, Pool in the Park has implemented the following admissions policy for children under eight years:

  • Children under eight years must be accompanied at all times by a responsible person.
  • A responsible person is someone aged 16 years or over. A responsible person can only supervise up to two children aged between four and eight years of age. Please see individual ratios for specific pools.
  • Supervision is required by a responsible person at all times.

Competition Pool and Leisure Lagoon

Due to the depth and size of these pools children under four years must be accompanied in the water by a responsible person in the ratio of one responsible person to one child .
Children must wear suitable buoyancy aids (not provided).

Competition pool and lagoon scenarios:

  • child one year old and child three years old = two responsible persons
  • child three years old and child seven years old = two responsible persons
  • child four years old and child seven years old = one responsible person

Teaching Pool

Because of the depth and size of the Teaching Pool, the child to responsible person ratios may be reduced as follows:
Up to two children under the age of four years can be accompanied in the water by one responsible person .
Children under the age of four must wear suitable buoyancy aids (not provided). Buoyancy aids are strongly recommended for all non-swimmers.

Teaching pool scenarios

  • child three years old and child seven years old = one responsible person
  • child four years old and child seven years old = one responsible person
  • child one year old and child three years old = one responsible person

This admission policy applies to general public sessions at Pool in the Park. Special sessions may have a specific ratio which will be displayed in relevant literature. For further explanation of this policy please ask to speak to a Duty Officer.

Swim Standards Scheme

Many parents and families struggle to take all their children swimming because of the adult to child ratio policies in place at swimming pools around the country. The adult to child ratio admission policy at Pool in the Park is set to ensure the safe supervision of children under the age of eight.

However it is recognised that many children under the age of eight are good swimmers, yet access is still restricted. To overcome this, Pool in the Park have devised a set of tests that will show that the child is safe within our pools.

Pool in the Park - Important Customer Information

  • To improve your swim and enhance the quality of the water, we ask you to shower before you swim.
  • Read all signs.
  • Make yourself familiar with all pool depths.
  • Please follow the lifeguard's instructions at all times.
  • Non or weak swimmers should wear a buoyancy aid and stay within safe standing water depth.
  • Do not eat a meal or drink alcohol prior to your swim.
  • Customers with long hair, please ensure that your hair is tied back at all times whilst swimming.

Health Information

Regular bacteriological tests for all the pools are carried out by Woking Borough Council's Environmental Health Department. The water quality is also monitored regularly throughout the operational hours of the pools.

Babies Under Six Months Old

There is little to commend a baby (under six months old) swimming in a public pool. The water temperature is unlikely to be to a baby's comfort and the chemicals used to treat the water in a public pool are somewhat harsh for a baby's delicate skin.

Walkways

Some of the walkways are sloped and frequently wet. Care must be taken at all times in these areas.

T Shirts

We request that any customer wishing to swim wearing a T-shirt must gain authorisation from the Duty Manager who can be contacted at reception.

The wearing of T-shirts during a swim will not be permitted unless there is a specific reason. Only the Duty Manager can agree the use of a T-shirt and will explain the precautions to be taken for your personal safety if wearing such a garment.

Snorkel Masks and Flippers

Please note for safety reasons snorkelling masks and flippers are prohibited during all public sessions.

Wet and Dry Changing Room System

We operate a 'Wet and Dry Changing Room System'. This is to help with health and safety issues and to reduce outside dirt from shoes entering wet areas of the changing rooms and pools.
The guidelines are as follows:

  • Please enter cubicle through main dry corridor.
  • Once changed into swimwear, exit the other side to put clothes into a locker.
  • You will then be in the wet corridor where no outdoor footwear should be worn.
  • Proceed to end where toilets and showers are available prior to your swim.
  • Larger family and disabled changing rooms are available. Our staff are always at hand to help you.
