Health and well-being: A key priority

Health and well-being is one of the three key priorities for Woking Borough Council. We are working towards integrated and accessible local facilities and services to encourage the health and well-being of all members of the community.

What is Health?

The World Health Organization views health as a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.

Two key components of leading a healthy lifestyle are eating a balanced, healthy diet and taking regular exercise. Other important factors in obtaining a healthy lifestyle include reducing risk factors such as smoking and alcohol consumption, achieving a healthy work-life balance, managing stress and looking after your mental well-being.

Lifestyle Tips:

  • Aim to eat at least five fruit and vegetables each and every day

  • Choose low fat and low salt options, the traffic light labelling on food packaging is great for helping with this

  • Be active! Aim for 30 minutes of physical activity on at least 5 days each week

  • Incidental exercise counts! Take the stairs or park the car further away

  • Enjoy your leisure time!
