Woking One World

Town centre events, community workshops, theatre performances, live music, street entertainment….all year round there is plenty in store to fill the town with colourful activity reflecting the diverse communities that live in the borough. Woking One World has been celebrated in the borough for over 15 years and aims to promote community spirit and health and wellbeing in Woking.

 

Chinese New Year celebrations
Saturday 20 February 2010, 11am - 3pm

Gong Xi Fa Cai!
Welcome to the Year of the Tiger

Entertainment from 12noon - 3pm
Stalls available from 11am - 3pm

Chinese New Year is a time for celebration and happiness. It is a time when old and young come together, when families are made whole again and new friendships are made.

Street style entertainment:
- traditional lion dance
- chinese songs
- Tai Chi
- traditional Chinese dance
- Kung Fu
- musical instruments.

Stalls offering activities including Chinese calligraphy, Chinese language and musical instruments. Food will be available throughout the event. Get your picture taken with the colourful lion heads or dress up in traditional Chinese costumes.

The Chinese Association of Woking wishes you peace, happiness and prosperity in the Year of the Tiger.

A great opportunity to enjoy entertainment from local musicians, savour delicious food from around the world and visit craft stalls.
  Diwali festival of lights
November 2010

Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, is the most popular of all the festivals from South Asia, and is also the occasion for celebrations by Jains and Sikhs, as well as Hindus. Previous Diwali celebrations have included a stunning parade of colourful lanterns, costumes and Indian crafts made by the local community, accompanied by live music.

  One World Party
November 2010

An opportunity to see the world in one event!
Previous One World Party events have featured live music, dance performances, entertainment from local community groups and stalls displaying crafts from around the world.

  Christmas celebrations

A range of entertainment throughout December including carol singing in the town centre.
