Diwali festival of lights In previous years, Woking Park has been lit up with a stunning parade of colourful lanterns, costumes and Indian crafts made by the local community to celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights. Diwali is the most popular of all the festivals from South Asia. Celebrated by Jains and Sikhs, as well as Hindus, the Festival of Lights marks the victory of good over evil, light over darkness, and knowledge over ignorance. In partnership with Prabashi Surrey, Dakshinayan UK and the Federation for Indian Arts, the Council worked with local schools and community groups to create a dazzling arrange of lanterns for the parade. We have a programme of schools workshops and a lantern training workshop taking place in the lead up to the Diwali parade. If any local schools or community groups are interested in making lanterns and participating in the parade, please contact hannah.smith@woking.gov.uk |
| Christmas celebrations December 2010 A range of entertainment throughout December including carol singing in the town centre. |
