During June 2009, 385 artists and craftspeople opened their doors to the public. Studios of all designs opened across Surrey for two weeks in June and all the studios opened during the middle weekend (13 and 14 June). This was a fantastic opportunity to meet artists, discuss creative techniques with practitioners, take part in workshops, enter the free prize draw and explore the huge variety of work on offer, including wood carving, printmaking, painting, jewellery, painting, sculpture, textiles, sculpture and ceramics.
There were 26 artists participating in a total of eight studios in the Woking area, most of which are new to the open studio event.
This is the biggest number of artists open studios has had participating in the Woking area, and this is due to more arts activities taking place in Woking and two large groups who are the Life Drawing for All Abilities group showing out of the Highlands Centre in Westfield and artist Stuart Wilson pulling together an exciting mix of artists called the White Rose Artists Group at Trevarno Lodge.
The next Surrey Artsits Open Studios will be taking place 5 - 20 June 2010 and will be the 10th anniversary year.
