The Future Jobs Fund Project

The Future Jobs Fund (FJF) was a Government initiative introduced to help tackle youth unemployment by offering work placements to individuals aged 18-24 years old, that had been out of work and claiming Jobseekers' Allowance for about six months. The selected applicants were contracted for a six-month period to help them develop their employability skills, with the hope that the experience will assist them in finding permanent positions in the future.

Woking Borough Council committed to recruiting around 20 individuals, working across an array of departments, including: marketing communications, environmental health, human resources, community services, policy and ICT.

The Council and the FJF trainees have been working in partnership to make the most out of this enterprising scheme. Whilst trainees have developed crucial interpersonal skills, gained valuable work experience and have been supported throughout their time, the Council has benefited from the fresh innovative input, the extra resources and the opportunity to help the local community.
