Transport plan

Woking Borough Council's Staff Transport Plan was adopted with the aim of reducing car usage by 10%. Following the adoption of the Council's Climate Change Strategy, and a review of the Transport Plan, a series of measures will be introduced to continue the progress that has been made, and tackle the key aim of reducing Carbon Dioxide (CO2) equivalent emissions that result from staff transport, when staff travel to work and undertake travel on Council business. Below and elsewhere on Ewok are details of the Transport Initiatives which all staff are encouraged to use. Staff are always encouraged to give feedback on transport issues.

The Staff Transport Plan Initiatives:

Flexible Working
This makes provisions for staff to work the hours that suit them, take time off work for extra hours that have been accumulated, work a 9 day fortnight, and work from home.

Cycling
Staff can claim a monthly allowance for cycling to work and also when cycling at work. There is a staff loan to assist with the purchase of a bicycle, and a staff discount with a local cycle shop. The Civic Offices have been equipped with shower facilities, and a secure cycle storage area.

Walking & Running
Staff who wish to walk or run to work will be able to make use of showers and clothes storage facilities at the Civic Offices. Umbrellas can be borrowed from HR if required, and a discount is available for running shoes and clothing at a local sports shop.

Public Transport
Staff can claim a discount off the price of particular travel tickets for use on Arriva buses. An interest free season ticket loan is accessible to staff who use other forms of Public Transport to travel to work each day.

Journey Planning
Assistance with planning your journey is available through the Transport Direct web site. Audio conferencing is a useful tool that can eliminate the need for staff to travel to some engagements.

Car Sharing
This is an excellent way to cut the cost of your travel to work. The Council's subscription to surreycarshare.com enables staff to search for lifts from other Woking Borough Council employees, or search for lift share arrangements from outside the Council.

The Staff Transport Plan is an on-going programme, where new initiatives will be introduced to meet the aims of the Plan. It is the Council's aspiration that as many staff as possible have the opportunity to make use of the Transport Plan.
