Am I eligible for a Safe and Warm Grant?

You can apply for a Safe and Warm grant if you are:

  • an owner/occupier

  • a private tenant (including Housing Association tenants) but not a Council tenant

  • an occupier with a lifetime licence

and you or the person living (or coming to live) permanently with you is:

  • 60 years of age or over, or

  • suffers from a disability

and you or your partner are in receipt of a means tested benefit, such as:

  • Income Support

  • Guaranteed Pension Credit

  • Income-based Job Seekers Allowance

  • Housing Benefit

  • Council Tax Benefit (not single person discount)

  • Working Tax Credit.

How much help can I get?

The maximum Safe and Warm Grant is £6,000 in any three year period.

Works should not start unless you have got formal written approval from the Council. A grant will not be paid if you start work before the grant is approved.

How do I apply for a Safe and Warm Grant?

Contact the Homelink Team at the Council's Civic Offices for an application form. They will be able to tell you what supporting documents you may need.

Please let the team know if the work is urgent.

You will need to make sure that any building regulation approval or planning permission has been granted before you start work.
