RSS feeds

RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication" and is a way for sites to easily publish lists of fresh news stories and updates that you can use to keep track of the latest content.

The system works by software downloading the feed from the site that publishes it, and interpreting that information to supply you with links back to the relevant news stories or updates on the site. The advantage of this is that you can collect the feeds from a variety of different sites at once, and examine the latest updates to your favourite sites on one place.

The software that manages this is known as a feed reader, news aggregator, or sometimes just a newsreader. A wide variety of (often free) feed readers for your computer can be found by searching Google.
