What's new on www.woking.gov.uk

Thank you for visiting the newly designed and restructued Woking Borough Council website. It is the result of months of work spent consulting local people, testing the site with disabled users, constructing the new pages, transferring over the content and adding new features. We really hope that you like what you see.

We thought it might be helpful to clarify exactly what has changed on the site so that you can familiarise yourself with it quickly and start to benefit from the information and online services.

The look and feel

We've tried hard to give the new site a fresh, clean design that is easy to read and easy on the eye. We have done away with old clipart images and, where possible, replaced them with real pictures of Woking and its people.

Accessibility of the site

We have worked with disability organisation, the Shaw Trust, to ensure that our site is as accessible as possible to people with different impairments. Please take a look at the various accessability options available to you by using the links at the top of the page.

We have changed how the information is organised down the left-hand side of the screen to make it easier for you to find what you want. When you click on each heading you will be taken to a contents page which should help you to find what you need more quickly. Of course, you can always use the search facility located at the top of every page if you know what you are looking for.

More news

We have tried to make the homepage more news-focussed so that we can keep you up-to-date with what is going on in the Borough. If you can't instantly see a story that you were looking for, you could go to `More Council news' or `Local news from the BBC'. If you are keen to get regular updates from the Council, you can subscribe to an RSS Feed which will ensure you get the stories as they are published on the website.

Please interact with us!

We are keen for more users to interact with us online as this will save you time and give our staff the chance to devote time to those people who need our help the most. In the new `Do it online' section we have grouped together all of the resources that could help you to communicate with us quickly. Please do have a look through this section and see how you could interact with us.

Note: Some of the services availble through Services Gateway will require you to prove your identity as they will enable access to personal information. In order to apply for these services you will need to register an account.

The personal touch

From the Homepage, you can now obtain lots of information relating to a property in the Borough simply by typing in a house name or number and postcode. It couldn't be easier to find out who your local Councillor is, when your rubbish will next be collected or whether there are any community groups in your area. And we've included a map as well for good measure!
