Woking in Bloom

Each year Woking Borough Council organises a competition to celebrate the horticultural excellence of its residents. Woking in bloom encourages residents and local businesses to make Woking a brighter, greener place to live.

Entries are divided into seven main categories and one special award:

  • best large front garden
  • best small front garden
  • best hanging basket
  • best tub/container
  • best floral public house
  • best kept community (shared) garden
  • best school environmental garden
  • best new entrant - for newcomers to Woking in Bloom

Judging takes place in July and there is always an emphasis on the use of environmental practices in accordance with the five main aims of the LA21 initiative:

  • Reduce water use in the garden
  • Cut down on use of pesticides and inorganic fertilisers
  • Use alternatives to peat
  • Compost kitchen and garden waste
  • Attract wildlife and create habitats

All the category winners are invited to attend a presentation evening in September where they will be able to meet the Mayor of Woking, competition sponsors and judges, aswell as swapping tips with the winners of the annual Allotments Competition.

If you would like to enquire further about the competition, please fill in an enquiry form online. Entry forms will be available on-line or from a number of locations around the Borough from April 2011.
