To ensure that we can recycle as much as possible, it's important that residents separate their waste correctly. Please follow the guidance below.
The following items can go in the black bin with the blue lid, blue bin or blue sack:
Junk mail (Please be aware that information on measures that can be taken to reduce the amount of posted junk mail can be found in The Recycling Directory.)
Newspapers
Washed plastic bottles
Household paper
Shredded paper - please put shredded paper in the recycling bin. It is more difficult to separate out at the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) than the non shredded form because the very small pieces are difficult to pick out in the sorting process. Therefore we would recommend only shredding confidential material.
Cardboard
Yellow pages
Washed cans / tins
Envelopes
Magazines / catalogues
Washed plastic milk containers
Glass - only if your property has a wheeled bin for recycling. Glass not contained in a blue lidded wheeled bin will not be collected. If you use blue sacks please continue to take to local recycling facilities.
The following items can go in the black bin or black sack
Cling film
Plastic bags / packaging / wrapping
Food waste (or this can also be composted or disposed of using a wormery)
Aerosols
Garden waste - please compost or recycle via the Council's garden waste collection or take to Community recycling centres (Martyrs Lane and Slyfield Green).
Clinical waste - arrangements for collection of clinical waste can be made by contacting Customer Services on 01483 755855.
Bulky waste - Woking Borough Council offers a special collection service for individual residents of the Borough. Most bulky household items can be taken, however the service does not cater for anything classified as building material such as kitchen units, baths or garden sheds
Textiles / clothing / shoes - please take to local recycling facilities or charity shops.
If items are recyclable please try not to put them in your black wheeled bin or sack. For a full list of what items can be recycled and how they can be recycled can be found in The Recycling Directory.
