Household clinical waste

Woking Borough Council  provides a free service for the collection of household clinical waste. The items for collection must be placed outside the property and be ready for collection by 6.30am each Wednesday or Thursday. People living independently within a housing complex are also eligible for collections.

Household clinical waste items include:

- dressings
- needles
- catheter bags
- incontinence bags
- stoma bags

Guidelines for the household clinical waste collection service

  • The collection area must be accessible and unlocked.
  • All waste must be sealed and clearly labelled.
  • Clinical waste must be separated from normal domestic waste.
  •  Yellow sacks must weigh no more than 5Kgs.
  • Replacement containers will be left after each collection.

The Council reserves the right to change collection days (currently Wednesday or Thursday). Where possible, residents will be told in advance if the collection date changes.

The Council is able to charge for the collection of household clinical waste. However, the charge for private homes is waived at present.

Other clinical waste producers, such as hospitals and nursing homes, will need to make arrangements for the collection and disposal of their waste by contacting a private waste collection company.
