Garden waste collection

Recycle your green garden waste by using our kerbside collection service.

Our kerbside collection service is a great way to recycle garden waste such as grass cuttings, clippings and weeds. If you wish to use the service, you will be asked to pay an annual fee to receive a green wheeled bin for your garden waste. This bin will be delivered to your door, and then collected from the boundary of your property on a fortnightly basis.

The annual subscription fee will pay for the service. The bin will remain the property of Woking Borough Council and will be recovered from you if and when the service is no longer required.

Why compost?

As a Woking resident you are entitled to purchase a home composter at a subsidised rate.

For those residents who are unable to compost at home, our garden waste collection service offers a suitable alternative.

Although garden waste is biodegradable when this material is sent to landfill it decomposes in the absence of oxygen, releasing the greenhouse gas methane. Methane is 21 times more harmful than carbon dioxide - a contributing factor in global warming - so sending biodegradable waste to landfill has a negative impact on the environment.

In addition, the UK is limited in the amounts of biodegradable waste that can be sent to landfill. If our allowance is broken, Council's could face fines of ?150 for every tonne of waste sent to landfill over the allowed limit.

The compost is produced to the PAS100 standard using the `wind-row' system to ensure a high-quality product. This is then used on farmland surrounding the composting site when it is ready.
