Hoe Valley - trees

As part of the Hoe Valley Scheme a significant number of trees were removed across the site. While trees were kept where possible, in areas where the ground will be dug up and remediated or where a structure (for example a flood defence wall) significantly damages the root area of an existing tree, it has been removed. All trees were felled in line with an approved arboricultural method statement, which was a planning condition requirement for activity on the site.

In certain parts of the scheme, the flood defences will run through the root areas of trees, which would normally be defined as the 'root protection area,' but in the view of our arboriculturist may not significantly damage the roots. As opposed to just removing the tree, these will be monitored to see how they react to the disturbance and will be kept if at all possible.

The main tree felling programme has now been completed. With the exception of trees which do not survive as outlined above, no more felling will be carried out in association with the Hoe Valley scheme
