Local produce
Purchasing food grown locally helps the local agricultural economy and reduces pollution from long distance transportation.
Actions
- Choose locally grown produce and try to buy fruit and vegetables in season as it is more likely that they will have been produced closer to home.
- Shop at one of Surrey's Farmers' Markets, where farmers, growers and producers sell their own produce, direct to the public. All products sold should have been grown, reared, caught, brewed, pickled, baked, smoked or processed by the stallholder.
- Discourage the multinational corporations that produce citrus fruit drinks from destroying tropical forests by drinking British apple juice and other British fruit drinks.
