Litter Enforcement

 

Litter, including cigarette butts, chewing gum, food wrapping and drinks containers costs Woking Council Tax payers over £750,000 a year to clear away.

A campaign has recently been introduced by the Council and anyone caught by our Litter Enforcement Team dropping litter in the Borough now faces a £75 penalty.

If payment is made within 10 days this will be reduced to £50. Failure to pay within 14 days could lead to a court prosecution and a fine of up to £2,500. This new approach to tackling the problem of litter in the Borough follows an extensive `warning period' which began in 2005.

Over the coming months, the Council intends to keep people aware of the campaign's success and the Litter Enforcement Team will be targeting the areas outlined below:
