Graffiti

Graffiti, along with other environmental crimes is a sign of an uncaring and indifferent society , the visual impact of which can rapidly diminish the desirability of an area.

Environmentally, if smaller crimes are allowed to incrementally build up and get worse then more serious crimes will begin to occur. This is the broken window theory: once one window is broken, it is not long before they are all broken.

It is therefore important that graffiti is removed as quickly as possible. Woking Borough Council's Enviromental Contractors, Serco will remove offensive or racist graffiti within 24 hours of report and most other cases within 48 hours from Council owned property. Photographic records are kept as evidence of persistent problem graffiti, allowing cases to be pursued to prosecution.

There are limited areas in the borough where graffiti is permitted, for more information on the location of these sites, please contact Woking Borough Council on 01483 755855.

The Council would encourage any resident to report incidents of graffiti and any information relating to individuals who may be responsible. All reports will be dealt with in confidence.
